Jordan's Life in Boston

So this is my first blog, and hopefully not my last. Written for all those who are interested in knowing more about my life as a musician in Boston. This blog also has been written in part to stop such questions as "How are you liking Boston?" or "How do you like Berklee?" What do you think the answer will be? People need to get more creative with questions, honestly. It's like coming home from vacation and getting tired of everyone asking "How was Hawaii?" It's much too general a question to answer well.

It just got cold this past week here in Boston. I especially noticed it this morning because one of the boilers in our condominium complex stopped working last night and didn't start working again 'till about two hours ago, so it has been freezing in here most of the day.

Yesterday was momentous because while I was doing dishes I lifted up a bowl and found a cockroach as big as my thumb underneath, the first of the year. It scared me incredibly, but I was able to catch it and I took pictures of it (I'll upload those later for anyone who wants to see just how ugly it was).

Most people know me as the "pianist". I am trying to shrug this title now, because I'm doing a lot more than just piano. I got into Berklee on piano, but after 1 week of school I switched to vocals. I am singing now everywhere instead of piano, though I still practice both. Even in my own band I have a separate keyboard player so that for now I can concentrate more on my vocals. I really enjoy singing just as much as piano (this may come as a shock to many people). I'm most known around Berklee and among my friends for my composing. I am writing songs all the time. You can hear some of these songs at myspace.com/jkamalu. Right now most of the recordings are pretty rough, and I will update the songs as I get better recordings.

My band is awesome, and I love playing with them. It's a pretty large group. Piano, voice, bass, drums, alto sax, trumpet, cello, violin, guitar. It's tricky dealing with that large of a group, and everyone being students, but we sound really good. We are just starting to get booked around the city.
